Finally in the process of editing photos from 2024! We’re getting back on track! Last January we spent a couple of days in Belgium again. It’s becoming a tradition by now. This time we visited the Liberation Garden museum in Leopoldsburg (highly recommended) and we visited Liège (Luik in Dutch). Probably most famous for its, besides the waffles, 374-step staircase, Montagne de Bueren. Quite the work-out, but worth the view! Shot with the X-E4 and the 16mm fujinon lens.

Schloss Wackerbarth and Dresden
Slowly but surely catching up on my blog posts. This is the last one from last year (2023). Another day trip in Germany! The city of Dresden. I’ve had heard good things about it, so I was excited to visit the place. But before going to Dresden we made a small stop first at Schloss Wackerbarth where wine is produced. A very nice winery with beautiful surroundings.

On our way back from the Sächsische Schweiz to Coswig we had a litte stop at the Moritzburg Castle. Apparently famous for the 1973 Czech/German movie, “Three Wishes for Cinderella”. Walking around the castle does feel like a fairy tale. Keep your eyes open and you even might find Cinderella’s slipper!

Berlin was great! And there was more to come. Time to pack up and start our drive to Coswig. Catching up with old friends. Staying at their place for a couple of days too. We’re lucky to have friends in different places. After settling in, we were in for an adventure the next day. Hiking through the area of Der Nationalpark Sächsische Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland National Park). More specifically, Naturschutzgebiet Pfaffenstein (Pfaffenstein Nature Reserve). What a beautiful views, and what a climb. Steep stairs, amazing forest scenaries and climbing over rocks. We had an amazing time. I wish I had taken more time to take better photos. What an adventure!

Another busy day in Berlin. We tried to see as much as we could but taking enough time to enjoy the city. In the end we managed to do quite a lot. We visited Alexanderplatz, Berliner Dom (Cathedral), Staatsbibliothek, Brandenburg Gate, Potsdamer Platz, The Reichstag. Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe, Checkpoint Charlie, Französischer Dom (French Cathedral) and Deutscher Dom (German Cathedral) on the Gendarmenmarkt. We did walk a lot again. But also took the bus and metro to switch things up. The boys seemed to loved that. And, in the end, that’s what it’s all about. Creating all these nice new memories together! Berlin definitely is an amazing place to do so.

December 2011 was when we last visited Berlin. Lots of things have changed since. The biggest one is having two kids now! We always talked about visiting Berlin again. So we did! During the last summer holiday we planned a couple of days in Germany as well. Starting in Berlin. Different season, bigger family, same city. Showing the boys around, learning the history and reunited with friends. We had a really good time!

Traded Hungary for France this summer. Camping in the Vendée. Just like old times. One place in particular brings back sweet memories : Les Sables-d’Olonne. A gorgeous seaside town with a beautiful beach and charming center. Happy to pay it another visit after all those year. Creating new memories. 🙂
