My First Impressions of the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens

I recently bought the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens. It’s been a while since I bought anything for my Canon setup. Mostly that’s because I am very satisfied with my Fuji X100S. That little camera still suits most of my needs.

But it’s also nice to expand the collection a little bit and play around with the Canon again after such a long time. It’s actually quite nice to be holding the ‘big’ DSLR once more and have some fun with it. I usually like to shoot wide. But sometimes a little extra reach comes in handy. And more importantly I didn’t have a Macro lens yet. Those two things combined were the mean reason for me to make the purchase and add it to my collection.

Fairy Tales And Such (Plus a Wide Conversion Lens)

DSCF5624

A quick blog post about my first impressions using the WCL-X100. The WCL-X100 is a wide conversion lens for the FUJIFILM X100 (and up). Since the return of our trip to Paris I added it to my wishlist in the hope of getting it one day. Not knowing my wish would come true that fast. Adri got me the converter as a birthday present (and it wasn’t even my birthday yet!). This way I could use the converter already during our visit to the Efteling.

The WCL-X100 gives you a 28mm equivalant view and attaches directly on to the camera. This can easily be done by simply removing the front ring (or adapter ring and lens hood). The converter comes with a lens pouch and front and rear lens caps. It matches the quality of the X100S and integrates perfectly with the camera. It looks fantastic as it uses the same materials, textures and colors as the existing X100. I wanted the black version instead of the silver one. Just for kicks. 🙂

(Mirror)Less is More? FUJIFILM X100S

IMG_0395

I love my Canon gear and will not depart from it anytime soon. But I was looking for something that would be less heavy to carry around, could still provide excellent image quality and would offer more than just a simple point and shoot camera.

For a while I already had my eye set on the FUJIFILM X100 and was interested in getting one. Although it had its quirks, most people seemed to love this little camera. Not only the camera itself was praised but also Fuji’s involvement. Firmware updates kept on coming to improve the camera. Then the X100S came out and this camera had even better reviews. Reading those reviews, I knew this was the camera I wanted to add to my collection.
